Falls Along Sweet Creek

Falls Along Sweet Creek

7/30/2021: This is an easy hike along Sweet Creek, thru a forest of moss-covered rocks, trees, and stumps; a forest of ferns; Douglas-fir; Alder; and Big Leaf Maple to Sweet Creek Falls. There are several small waterfalls along the trail. It is pretty crowded, but a nice hike for the entire family.

You can make this a longer, 5.4 miles, roundtrip. See the USFS description of Sweet Creek Falls Trail #1319. You will start at the same trailhead as the trail described herein, but just continue hiking beyond Sweet Creek Falls to Beaver Creek Falls Trailhead. If you do the entire 5.4 miles roundtrip hike, you will come across 11 waterfalls. We did not do the entire trail because we had been traveling much of the day. Next time…

Marg’s Notes: Whittaker Creek Campground – Sweet Creek. Got up fairly early & headed south. The campground is between Florence & Eugene. Set up camp when we got there. A fairly nice BLM campground. We were in site 28. Nice because we could put the tent back in a little grove away from the table. After lunch & setting up camp we headed to Sweet Creek Falls. It was hot & muggy. Started out @ 4 pm. Downhill at first again. Lots of people. Great access to Creek & swimming holes along the way. I wore my swim stuff but did not go in. we went all the way to the upper overlook. Nice view. 1.44 miles total [we go different mileage on this one for sure]. Took ~ an hour. Afterwards, went to a store in Mapleton to get a gallon of H2O because it was not on in the campground! Redneck place! Back at camp I went swimming in the swimming hole! Chilly but refreshing!

Fried pork, peas, & dried taters. Slept well! Some rustling in the shrubs in the night!
